At this time, the San Luis Police Department is seeking an independent 911 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). Today, 911 PSAPs are situated in Somerton, AZ and Yuma, Arizona. The State of Arizona requires a minimum of 300 911 calls per month, deriving from the City of San Luis in order to obtain our own 911 PSAP. The San Luis Police Department along with Fire Chief Hank Green have taken the lead to launch an aggressive awareness campaign to encourage residents of this community to dial 911 for all emergencies. Presently, 911 calls made from the City of San Luis are routed directly to the City of Somerton Police Department (SPD) or the Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO). Having our own 911 system will eliminate the need of Somerton or YCSO to transfer 911 calls to the City of San Luis rather than receiving calls directly, thus saving crucial seconds in any emergency situation.
